What strength should I choose?
The same number as your current reading glasses. No readers yet? Use the guide on this page: most people in their 50s choose +2.00 or +2.50. Only the bottom of the lens has that strength. The top stays clear for distance.
How do progressive lenses work?
The strength changes smoothly from the top (distance) to the bottom (reading), with no line. Look straight ahead to see far. Look down to read. Most people get used to it in a day or two: point your nose at what you want to see.
How fast do the lenses darken?
In sunlight they start to darken within about a minute and clear again a few minutes after you go back inside. Strong sun and cold weather make them darker. Behind a car windshield they darken less, because the glass blocks most UV.
Do they help with screens?
The lenses filter part of the blue light from screens. Use the middle of the lens for a computer at arm’s length.
Are these prescription glasses?
No. They are ready-made readers: the same strength in both lenses and no astigmatism correction. If each eye needs a different strength, see an eye doctor.
