“No more candy that mum and dad just end up tossing”

That’s a real comment and it is the honest arithmetic of Halloween. The bucket comes home, an adult sorts through it, and anything unrecognised, unwrapped or simply excessive goes in the bin on the second of November.

So a good share of what you handed out was never going to be eaten by anyone.

These are the version that gets kept. They end up in a pencil case, on a desk, at the bottom of a school bag — which is a longer life than a fun-size chocolate bar has ever had.

The entire product, in one photograph

Press it flat. Watch it come back.

SquashedA finger pressing a pumpkin squishy flat
One finger, all the way down. Soft, slow, and slightly ridiculous.
A second laterThe same squishy back to shape
Back to full shape with no dent. That’s the whole appeal and it doesn’t need explaining to anybody.
What actually arrives

Everything laid out

The whole set spread out

Ghosts, pumpkins, bats, cats, little monsters, witches and a few odd ones. All cute — simple dot eyes and small smiles, nothing with fangs or blood, which matters if some of them are going to five-year-olds.

The assortment is random. We don’t have a confirmed count of how many different characters there are, or whether the draw is balanced or genuinely random. If you need a specific mix, ask us first.

A handful for scale A pile of them on a table

Each one is roughly the size of a large grape. That is also exactly why the safety note below matters.

Where the packs go

Three places people buy these for

A doorstep bowl of squishies
The door bowlInstead of, or alongside, the sweets. Nobody has ever been disappointed to get a squishy.
Filling party bags
Party bagsA handful in each. Cheaper per bag than almost anything else you’d put in one.
A teacher handing them out in class

The teal pumpkin

A treat every child on the street can take

A teal pumpkin beside a bowl of squishies

A teal pumpkin on a doorstep is a recognised signal that non-food treats are available — for children with food allergies, coeliac disease, diabetes, or anything else that makes a bucket of unlabelled sweets a problem rather than a pleasure.

It costs you one bowl and about eleven dollars. For a parent walking a child with a serious allergy round a neighbourhood, it is the difference between their kid taking part and their kid watching.

You don’t have to stop handing out sweets. You just put a second bowl next to them.

Sweets and squishies side by side

Roughly the same handful

Same volume of sweets on the left, same volume of squishies on the right. The difference is that in a fortnight one of them is still in a coat pocket.

And after the 31st

They stop being Halloween in November

Small parts. That is the whole safety story.

Not for children under three, and not for anyone who still mouths things

Each one is about the size of a large grape and made of soft rubber. That is a choking hazard, and a soft object is harder to dislodge than a hard one. Keep them away from babies and toddlers entirely, supervise young children playing with them, and take them off anyone who puts them in their mouth. They are not food and not edible, however much they look like sweets in a bowl.

Do not put them in a treat bowl within reach of a toddler who is trick-or-treating with older siblings. That is the realistic scenario, and it is worth thinking about before you set the bowl down.

We have not been given toy-safety certification or a manufacturer’s minimum age. For a product that gets handed to children at a school party, that is the first thing a teacher or a parent will ask, and we would rather write it here than be asked. We have requested it; if it decides your order, email us first.

What you get

  • 30, 60 or 90 pieces depending on the pack
  • Assorted Halloween characters, randomly mixed
  • Soft squeezable rubber, returns to shape
  • Non-food — suitable for a teal pumpkin bowl
  • Useful long after the 31st

Not confirmed — so not claimed

  • Toy-safety certification and minimum age
  • How many pieces per child for a class or a door bowl
  • Number of different characters, and whether the mix is balanced
  • Exact size of one piece
  • Material smell on opening, and washability
  • Tear resistance after heavy handling

They may smell faintly of rubber out of the packet. That’s normal for this material and it fades. We don’t have confirmation of what happens if you wash them, so air them rather than soaking them.

They are a fidget toy, not a treatment. A lot of people find something to squeeze genuinely helps them concentrate or settle. That is their experience and it isn’t a medical claim — we’re not going to dress this up as therapy.

In their own words

Why people switch to non-food

“No more candy that mum and dad just end up tossing.”
“My son has a nut allergy. The teal pumpkin houses are the only ones he can actually visit.”
“I bought them for the class party and kept about ten for my own desk.”
“They’re still finding them in coat pockets in December.”

My son could finally take something

Nut allergy. He walks past most houses. Two families on our street did teal pumpkins this year and it made his night.

Wish the age rating was listed

They’re lovely and my seven-year-old adores them, but I run a playgroup and I can’t use them without a certificate.

Questions? We've got answers

Frequently asked questions

What age are these suitable for?

Not for children under three, and not for anyone who still puts things in their mouth — each piece is small enough to be a choking hazard. We have not been given a manufacturer’s minimum age or a toy-safety certificate, and for a product handed out at school parties we think you should know that before ordering.

How many do I need?

We don’t have a per-child guide from the maker. From what customers tell us: a class party runs on the 90, a party bag takes a small handful, and a door bowl for a normal street evening is comfortable on the 60. Tell us your headcount and we’ll give you our best estimate.

What is a teal pumpkin?

A teal-painted pumpkin on a doorstep is a widely recognised signal that non-food treats are available, so children with food allergies, coeliac disease or diabetes can take part safely. You keep handing out sweets — you just put a second bowl beside them.

Are they edible?

No. They are rubber toys that happen to look like sweets in a bowl, which is exactly why they must be kept away from very young children.

Which characters do I get?

Ghosts, pumpkins, bats, cats, monsters, witches and a few others, assorted randomly. We don’t have a confirmed character count or whether the mix is balanced, so if you need specific ones, ask before ordering.

Do they smell?

There can be a faint rubber smell straight out of the packet, which is normal for this material and fades. We don’t have confirmation on washing them, so air them out rather than soaking them.

Will they tear?

They’re soft and stretchy and they’re going to be squeezed by a lot of hands. We don’t have a tear-resistance figure from the maker — expect a casualty or two out of ninety.

Are they a fidget aid?

Lots of people find something to squeeze helps them focus or settle, and plenty of these get bought by adults. That’s their experience, not a medical claim, and we’re not going to sell this as therapy.

Can I use them for a birthday party in March?

Yes — the shapes are Halloween but a squishy is a squishy. It’s the main reason to buy the bigger pack.

What’s shipping like?

Orders ship within 24–48 hours with tracking, typically 5–7 business days in the US.

CHOKING HAZARD — SMALL PARTS. NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS. Each piece is small enough to be swallowed or inhaled and is made of soft material that can be difficult to dislodge from an airway. Keep away from babies, toddlers and anyone who mouths objects, and supervise young children at all times during play. NOT FOOD — these are toys that resemble confectionery; do not eat, chew, bite or place in the mouth, and do not serve from the same bowl as edible treats where a young child could confuse them. Seek immediate medical attention if a piece is swallowed. Keep away from pets. No toy-safety certification, conformity marking or manufacturer’s minimum age has been supplied to us, and none is claimed here; contact us before purchase if certification is required for your setting, for example a school, nursery, playgroup or childminding service. Not intended as a medical, therapeutic or behavioural aid; nothing on this page is a health claim or advice about any condition. Material may have a slight odour on opening which normally dissipates; washing tolerance is not confirmed. Keep away from flames and heat sources. Character assortment is random and varies between packs; the number of distinct designs and the distribution within a pack are not confirmed by the manufacturer. Colours may differ slightly from the images shown. Reviews reflect individual experiences.
