Questions
Is it hand-painted?
No. Your portrait is a digital illustration in a watercolor style, made by our studio from your photo, then printed on matte paper and framed. That’s why we email you a preview first: you see what will be printed.
What photo should I send?
A straight-on photo of the front of the house, in daylight, with the whole roof in view. You can add up to 3 photos, for example a close-up of the porch or the door.
My only photo is old or a little blurry. Will it work?
Send it, with any other photos you have (up to 3). An old print works best photographed flat near a window. If something isn’t clear enough, we’ll tell you by email before we print.
Can I use a real-estate listing or a map app photo?
Please don’t. Listing photos belong to the photographer or the agency, so we ask you to confirm the photo is your own. A family print or a photo you take yourself works.
Will I see it before it’s printed?
Yes. We email you a preview of your portrait before we print it. Check the house, the names and the years, then reply to that email to approve it.
What if the preview isn’t right?
Reply to the preview email and tell us what looks wrong. Nothing is printed until you approve your preview.
Can I add our family name, street and years?
Yes, all three are optional. Keep them short. They go under the house, the name in a script and the street and years in small capitals, and you check the spelling in your preview.
How big is it?
Choose an 11 x 14 in or a 16 x 20 in print. There is no mat: the illustration fills the frame, which covers about 0.5 in of each edge, so we keep the house and the text well inside. The 11 x 14 suits a shelf, a desk or a smaller wall; the 16 x 20 suits a main wall.
Is the front glass?
No. The front is clear acrylic, which is lighter than glass. Like glass, it can reflect a bright window.
What does the natural wood frame look like?
A natural wood frame in an oak tone. All three colors are the same thin 0.75 in wood frame.
Does it come ready to hang?
Yes. It arrives framed, with the hanging hardware included.
Will it arrive by Christmas?
Order by Dec 8 for Christmas in the US and reply to your preview email quickly. After you approve, your portrait is printed and framed in about 2-5 business days, then shipped in about 3-6 business days. These are estimates and run longer in December, so we can’t guarantee a date. After Dec 8, Digital file only is the safest choice.
Can you ship it straight to my parents?
Yes. Enter their address as the shipping address at checkout.
Can I order one for each brother and sister?
Yes. Add your portrait to the cart, then raise the quantity there: every copy gets the same photo, text and illustration. For a different size or frame, add it again with that option.
